Working Together/Who is BehindVentura County is different. We all see it in the way each town is distinct from the next, separated by rugged hills and farms. This uniqueness is not by accident, it is the product of coordinated action across the county. As growth increases we are seeking another coordinated action to ensure that our communities are prepared for the future. The Compact for a Sustainable Ventura County will address our present and future growth related issues including the health of the county economy, transportation and congestion on cross-county routes, housing costs, and even climate change. The Compact for a Sustainable Ventura County looks at how these challenges might be addressed by governments working together.
The Compact for a Sustainable Ventura County is a broad partnership of the 10 cities and Ventura County, The Ventura Council of Governments, Ventura County Transportation Commission, the Ventura County Civic Alliance, Ventura County Air Pollution Control District, and the Southern California Association of Governments.
The process starts with questions but not answers. Locals will shape the dialogue about which issues and solutions are built into the Compact's voluntary agreement between governments.
A Compact is a voluntary agreement between cities and our county governments in which they agree to work toward a shared long-term vision, common goals, and effective implementation.
So many of the challenges we face as a county simply cannot be addressed by just one or two local governments acting alone. This is the reason for entering into a Compact where all the cities commit together to address a challenge.
